Are You Unsure or Do You Have No Doubt? A Mindset Shift to Overcome Procrastination & Self-Doubt

I came across an absolute gem the other day, OMG I was so excited by this concept. Not new, but just the way it was put I really resonated with it.

  • If you are struggling with self-doubt or

  • you’re stuck in a pattern of procrastination or

  • not feeling good enough or

  • you’re just blocking yourself

then this post is for you.

The line was from a movie I was watching and I can’t recall the name. It came from an eastern philosophy I think. Here’s the quote:

“Let go of things that make you unsure and Embrace things where you have no doubt”

It’s a brain twister really. I thought about it for a while and then I applied to some of the clients I’d worked with over the years, different scenarios including my own, here are a few below. You’ll notice that the ‘Let go of things that make you unsure’ are on the left and then I’ve turned the thinking on it’s head (aka focus on the certainty) to become ‘Embrace things where you have no doubt’.

Scenario 1: She wants to open a store and is passionate about the idea

Uncertainty Focus: She has doubt about - What if the wrong kind of customers come in?

Certainty Focus: She feels certain about - I believe so much in what I’m doing that if the wrong person does come in, they’ll so realise and go to the store that best suits them

Uncertainty Focus: She has doubt about - I have to wait until everything is in place before I open

Certainty Focus: She feels certain about - I’m certain there'll always be something that could change and I know if I open and it’s not in place I have people I can call for help

Scenario 2: She wants to start a circle group

Uncertainty Focus: She has doubt about - I'm unsure whether to run a circle group

Certainty Focus: She feels certain about - I have no doubt about what I'd do with the group

Uncertainty Focus: She has doubt about - what if no-one turns up

Certainty Focus: She feels certain about - posting the event won't cause harm and no-one else knows who turns up anyway and it shows the universe I'm serious

Uncertainty Focus: She has doubt about - I don't know enough people to come - and it's out in the country

Certainty Focus: She feels certain about - I have no doubt that if I keep showing up someone will turn up

Scenario 3: She has avoided niching and doesn’t know how to describe what she does

Uncertainty Focus: She has doubt about - I don't know what to call myself or what I do

Certainty Focus: She feels certain about - I am absolutely certain that the topics I love are quantum physics, the law of vibration, I'm certain that I am lit up by sharing what I know, I'm certain that personal growth, quantum physics, digging underneath and working on my shadow has changed my life!

Uncertainty Focus: She has doubt about - If I choose a descriptor, what if it doesn’t feel right

Certainty Focus: She feels certain about - I am passionate about the topic and I know without a doubt that it has changed my life for good - I have permission to change my mind. If I do nothing, nothing will change

👉Next time you feel stuck, ask yourself: Am I holding onto something that makes me unsure? What’s one thing I have no doubt about right now? Notice what shifts when you try this.
