Well for a start, I don’t believe there’s any such thing. I believe that sometimes, procrastination is there as our guide - it’s there to tell us something. 𝑯𝒆𝒓𝒆’𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒎𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒐-𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒅 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒓𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒆 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔:
👉 woah - stop, this ain't the best idea right now anyway
👉 A message that there’s something hidden underneath that needs to be released before I can be fully present with the tasks that I’m avoiding
👉 That I am sitting with the ‘I’m not good enough’ affliction that I believe everyone has at some point
👉 There’s a better way - keep looking
👉 It’s something I REALLY dislike so why would I be jumping out of my skin to do it anyway?
I was reminded in this series of three posts about the system that I created some time back which at the time I called One Minute Goals. I included it in my course The Life Shift with The Internalists Way. I tested it myself when I needed to get motivated after a skiing accident to do exercises to strengthen my leg and wow it was so effective and yet so simple. In a nutshell it works by selecting something I would avoid at all costs that I committed to doing if I didn't do that one thing that I’d been putting off.
Anyway, why I bring that up is because procrastination can be a part of a whole big mesh of belief structures which are just waiting to be untangled. And it’s also part of a whole. I mentioned The Life Shift course and that I wrote for myself too - it’s made up of 12 essential elements that I believe need to be present in order for my life to flow. When my life gets out of balance, then I know that at least one of those things has been missing. And the accountability module looks at just one of those things.
I created the course for people who were looking for a way to uplevel their personal development journey and to build an understanding of Quantum Physics, Vibrational Energy (the laws of Vibration) and the Law of Attraction. The issue I had at the time was that I felt I couldn’t attach the course to anything, so that people would get it. But in doing the shadow work I’ve delved into in my own life recently, I now know that I wasn’t procrastinating in getting my course out in the world, fundamentally, I had a shadow which needed shifting - which went something like:
🟢 but what will people think
🟠 I don’t know how to market it
🟢 It’s not obvious what it’s about
🟠 It’s not ‘niched’
But those reasons were all masks. In delving into the shadow work I became clear, stepped into my authentic self fully - I know I can speak about it with precision focus, in the knowing that everything contained within the course is there because it has totally changed my life.
I know that the course is hugely valuable and really is the starting point for understanding the fundamentals of personal growth and transformative change.
So, how does this link to avoiding or overcoming procrastination? The link is subtle but hits you with a ton of bricks when you get it. Procrastination, and it’s known by many descriptors, here’s a few:
🦄 Boredom
🦄 Laziness
🦄 Procrastination
🦄 You’re just not a completer
🦄 Failure
And so the list goes on. I truly believe that procrastination isn’t a ‘thing’, and it definitely isn't any of the above. Instead, there's something hidden beneath and more often than not it’s ‘I’m Not Good Enough’ or ‘I’ll Be Happy When’.
So, that concludes my three posts which looked at:
🍎Breaking tasks down into chunks or bites of the apple
🍏Knowing that you can always change track cause maybe the apple tree was grafted, so you could choose to take a bite of a different apple
🍎There is no such thing as procrastination (my thoughts) - there is only uninvestigated thoughts
